Facilitator Trainings

After about 4 years of the Awakening the Dreamer Initiative, over 1600 facilitators around the world have trained to deliver the Symposium in their own communities, and that number is growing rapidly.

Each of these people stepped forward to express their commitment to build a better world by awakening those around them to new possibilities.

For some facilitators, delivering a Symposium in their own community is a simple and powerful act of service.  For others, the Symposium has become part of their larger vision to transform themselves, their communities and institutions, and even their countries.

The Pachamama Alliance is committed to training people who have the desire and commitment to deliver the Symposium in their own communities and beyond.  Facilitator Trainings take participants further into the spirit and the content of the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium, giving them the experience and support necessary to create Symposiums.

Becoming a Facilitator

Pachamama wants to make the “entry point” to becoming a Facilitator accessible to a broad range of people, and also to offer deep grounding in the spirit of the Symposium for those who feel called to that depth. Thus, the first step to becoming a Facilitator is to take an "Basic Training," in a one-and-a-half day, non-residential format.  This Training offers the basic elements of putting on a Symposium so that the participants can immediately go out and bring Symposiums into existence in their communities. The Basic Training is followed by a period of informally learning additional practical information and skills under the guidance of a mentor who is a trained facilitator, or with a team of people in a local community group.

For those who want a deeper grounding in the spirit of the Symposium and in what leadership roles they may play in the Awakening the Dreamer Initiative, they are invited to attend (after their Basic Training) a “Deepening Training.” This training is offered in a format that begins on a Friday evening and concludes late Sunday afternoon, with some held in residential retreat centers and others in non-residential locations.

Both of these trainings are designed for those who want to present from the front of the room, to host (bring together the team and the venue and be responsible for the participants registering),  to be on the production team the day of the event or to build alliances with organizations that could sponsor Symposiums. The word "facilitator' refers to all of these roles.

Delivering the Symposium is more than just "transferring information"––at its richest level it is an exploration of who we are in relation to the Earth, in relation to the human community, and in relation to ourselves.  Both of these Trainings offer a transformational experience of that exploration.

Commitment to Yourself and Others

The Facilitator Training represents a significant commitment. Those who have completed the trainings rave about their experience of the training and of being a part of the community committed to the purpose of the Symposium—bringing forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just human presence on the planet. We believe you will find it well worth your time and energy.
